This expedition is a photography mission trip. Bob Rockford will be your guide. He will take up to 10 people to a small village called San Lucas. You will spend ten days volunteering at many of the work sites, such as coffee sorting, at the sewing center, or work with a construction crew. It’s not all work, you will be given the flexibility to photograph the people, the place and any events that may be planned. There is a Sunday Mass, which is optional, however you really wouldn’t want to miss it. It takes place in a 400 year old Church, and the people come wearing their traditional dress.
The purpose is to get to know and understand the culture. Once you understand your images will be filled with soul and heart.
Bob has been on several mission trips to San Lucas, Guatemala since 1998. Past projects were to remodel two buildings and install 24 sewing machines have been accomplished. The machines are used by local women to sew for their families and make items to be sold in the city market.
I will post more information as it is available. Tentative dates will be end of September beginning of October. Approximate cost is $800 for airfare, $100 suggested donation to the parish priest for room and board, and any other monies for trinkets, souvenirs and beer.
